A to Z Recovery

First I would like to say, if you use drugs my prayers are with you and if you have an addiction please ask God to help you through it so you will be set free from that which has control. I have seen drugs my entire life, my whole family has used some type of drug; I also have used drugs of many kinds. I am happy to announce- not only am I free from drugs, I have no urge to use drugs, at all. - JW

There are groups that help people stay in recovery such as AA and the likes. However, do they stop your want for drugs? Or do they simply manage you to not use the drug; somewhat like a medication that is treating a symptom yet isn't curing it? Is there a true cure for the want to use drugs? And why are drugs like fentanyl so heavily influential in our society?

I lost my mother and brother two years apart from drug use. My brother and his girlfriend died from fentanyl when the drug was still mostly used in patch form, he was 20 years old. My mother died from crack cocaine two years after him. I can tell you that they all had one symptom in common: deep rooted pain.

if we look at fentanyl alone we know its a pain numbing agent given to the very ill, mostly cancer patients. This drug is 100 times stronger than morphine. Why would anyone choose to use this drug? Are people unknowing or knowingly self medicating to deal with rooted pain or an issue that is too overwhelming for them to handle? I'm am not just speaking on the use of fentanyl , but every drug known to man. And not just drugs but other variables as well. Addictions of all kind like shopping, food, just avoidance in general, abuse, gambling, etc; basically anything that will take your mind away from the problem at hand and of dealing with it.

if we look at what the definition of drugs is, it is defined as the following:

-a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body.

-administer a drug to (someone) in order to induce a state of near-unconsciousness or insensibility.

Either way it is to get out of what is at hand that one has to deal with. If someone wants to get out of the "what is" by inducing themselves in a substance than they are avoiding something and self medicating the best best way they can. They can not face the problem.

So let's say they do so decide to face the problem ,again they are going to face it by how they know to deal with something, by themselves, without God. And that is most likely by means of AA or quitting cold turkey or another way, however they haven't dealt with the core issue of why they started the use to begin with; and furthermore, it is not a true cure, either way. The only way to truly heal and be free from the underlying issue is to give the problem to God. Psalm 147:3: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” God will help you deal with every problem you could have.

You have to give him the problem and want to change and trust him to change you. And let me tell you,- some things might be very difficult to move past from because it not just God magically waving a wand, its you facing the problem with him and handling it together the right way to a true cure. This is not a lifelong treatment plan, or to put it in your subconscious like a hypnotist would do to get you to quit smoking cigarettes or to quit cold turkey just to pick up another habit that is no good. No, with God, Its gone .Forever. Truly healed.

*** I mentioned in a past post that I have heartache as a result of Jesus showing me that I was wrong for speaking to my son the way I had. He told me so I can be aware of it, to apologize to my son, and moved forward. I mention in my post that my heart is still hurting, well that is because Jesus just pointed this out to me and I just addressed it. However, over time he will heal that pain too because he died for our sins. So we can be forgiven and die to our sins so we can be free to be live right and well.

  • "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed" 1 Peter 2:24

  • "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God". 2 Corinthians 5:2

So as you are working through things with God on your journey it might get difficult but do not give up.

Matthew 24:13: "But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved."  "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, because having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life". James 1:12

*** I would like to mention marijuana smoking because people of today do not consider weed anything but a medicine- well that is what we are talking about here right? why would someone need a medicine-? What is their underlying problem they are avoiding? It might not be pain in the form of heartache pain rather stress pain, or fear pain, or generational factors of what has been done so a continuous of doing, which is a form of a unknown problem that needs Jesus to show you. Once you give your life to God he will show you this and you will have no want for it.

**** I started using methamphetamine right after I was attacked at the park in 2020. I was beaten and drug behind a bathroom building along a trail. When I awoke at the hospital, the cops told me they thought I was dead when they found me. My doctors told me I would have permanent memory loss. I didn't realize I was so broken from it. I placed it subconsciously in a drawer within me and I was self medicating trying to deal with feelings I couldn't face. And I have many things in my life like this from stealing as a teenager because I couldn't understand or even get into my feelings of what I was even feeling on the inside, if that makes sense. But working with God keeps we strong and renews my strength because I know I'm walking in his ways. He never gives up on us and we need to believe it.

  • Deuteronomy 31:8 "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

  • Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.".

Love you all, God First. -EdenReady
