Would you consider yourself a people pleaser? Do you care what others think of you or their opinion affects your actions? We as humans have the longing for acceptance. We want to know we are good enough to fit in with others. Going out of our way to fit in can be a huge pressure point on people. What makes this worse is that in our society, bullying is the norm. From the youngest of tots to the oldest of elders.
If we look at the bible we can see that Jesus and many others in the bible had a difficult time fitting in and pleasing people. I mean did they even care? Well yes, everyone cares. They had to come to the conclusion of pleasing God and live according to his plan, instead of caring what anyone had to say about it. If you decide to let what others think of you seep in, it will be a factor in how you live and move about. And thereby miss maturing how we are actually meant to. In a spiritual way not physical. Does anything in the physical form even matter anyway? Well yes, only secondary, however. If you act on bodily wants or feelings first and foremost then you are doing things backwards. It should be spirit leading first and center.
The body is going through life without a knowing, of anything. So it should not be making decisions. The spirit does not act in the sense of “how I feel or what I think is best” as you will be making decision with God, for your bodies best interest.
If we look at 1 Corinthians 6 19-20 “or do you not know that you body is a temple of the holy spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own: you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” And 1st Timothy 4:8 states “for physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things. Holding promises for both present life and the life to come”.
This statement is so powerful because its saying that physical- for one : is nothing by itself, and, can only get you so far. Second : you cannot do anything alone and be successful; no matter what you accomplish in this life, on the physical plane. Listening to God will never do you harm. Listening to your own body (self) will.
We are to care about others and want to please others, as the the commandments show us. Honor your neighbors, do not covet, love, this is the proper way to people please. And to care what they think of you. Also, this is leading by the best example. So others can learn to do the same. Going one step closer to the state of Eden. The place of Perfect.
